20 And Adam gave names to all the livestock and to the birds of the air and to every [wild] beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him. 21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and while he slept, He took one of his ribs or a part of his side and closed up the [place with] flesh. 22 And the rib or part of his side which the Lord God had taken from the man He built up and made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 Then Adam said, This [creature] is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of a man. 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not embarrassed or ashamed in each other’s presence.

Eve, the created mother of all humanity, was the only sinless woman who ever walked the earth – until she introduced sin to the world at the inspiration of that old serpent fallen from angelic height: Satan. She could have had the testimony and legacy for her descendants, of being a sinless humanity. Eve was formed from a rib or a part of the side of Adam. She had beauty, purity, and wholeness. She was betrothed to Adam in a perfect marriage. She was formed in a time when humanity was never supposed to experience death. The Holy Spirit of the Godhead Trinity was to be amongst them endlessly. When God blew the breath of life into Adam, He was given that immutable life from God. Eve experienced the blessing of the sacred Garden of Eden before its East gate was set on guard by an angel with a sword facing every direction.

Devotional Reading: Genesis 3:1-7 AMP

1 Now the serpent was more subtle and crafty than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made. And he [Satan] said to the woman, Can it really be that God has said, You shall not eat from every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden, 3 Except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. 4 But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die, 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good (suitable, pleasant) for food and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she gave some also to her husband, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves apronlike girdles.

Neither Adam nor Eve were born in sin and shapen in iniquity as were their descendants. However, despite the glorious position Eve held as the divine helper for Adam, she sold humanity’s guarantee of immortality for a bite of fruit. It was the most expensive taste ever taken. Because of Eve eating of the forbidden fruit, she made her husband Adam – to whom the commandment was given not to eat of the tree of life, vulnerable to a costly demise. Sin and death entered the world because of disobedience. Eve offered the fruit to Adam, of which Satan had beguiled her into believing that nothing would change after eating it – except that she would have the knowledge of God. When Adam harkened to the voice of Eve, contrary to the commandment of God, paradise was lost to the rest of the world.

Devotional Reading: Genesis 3:8-13 AMP

8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? 10 He said, I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me—she gave me [fruit] from the tree, and I ate. 13 And the Lord God said to the woman, What is this you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled (cheated, outwitted, and deceived) me, and I ate.

Eve’s fall, which dominoed into the fall of mankind, marks her as the first woman to sin. She did not have the benefit of a library, or a woman whom she could look up to as a role model. Because of the disobedience in the garden, the atmosphere of heaven was withdrawn from earth. No longer would man have the freedom to walk with God in the cool of the evening, not until and unless he was redeemed to God. It is true that by Adam, sin officially entered the world. However, you can learn from Eve’s mistake. She entertained the ideas of Satan. She conversed with him and attributed to him a position of authority (otherwise she would not have harkened to his suggestion). She should have dismissed him as one contrary to the commandment of God; and in doubting Satan’s truth, she should have sought a second opinion.

We do not know if Adam would have behaved differently had Eve come to him without the fruit in hand, but with only a question, explaining what Satan had said and asking Adam to validate the commandment from God. Maybe with that inspiration to analyze the situation, maybe Adam would have said, “As for me and my house, we will obey the voice of GOD”. Maybe he would have told Eve in no uncertain terms that she should not listen to the serpent’s advice, no matter what he tells her to do. Maye then Adam and Eve would not have felt the need to become fashion designers and make them aprons, and they would not have been fearful and hid themselves in the garden.

Devotional Reading: Genesis 3:16 AMP

16 To the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your grief and your suffering in pregnancy and the pangs of childbearing; with spasms of distress you will bring forth children. Yet your desire and craving will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.

Curiosity killed the immortal cat. You would have been immortal, had Eve been able to control her curiosity and obey the voice of God. Man is always blamed for the fall because the commandment was originally given to Him. However, Eve proved by her statements to Satan that she in fact knew what the commandment was, and therefore she could have used that knowledge to help her resist the serpent’s temptation. Because of Her willful disobedience, she was sentenced to pain in childbirth, craving for her husband despite the pain of childbirth, and being ruled by her husband. Despite Eve’s corruption of perfect peace in the Garden, God still blessed her. She was given another child after the murder of her son Able by his brother, Cain, and other sons and daughters (about seven children in total).

Devotional Reading: Genesis 3:17-19 AMP

17 And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life. 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.

Adam learned in a painful way, that people are to obey God above any other voice. Adam obviously valued his wife; he respected her enough to trust her opinion; and he ate of the forbidden fruit at her insistence. Because of this disobedience, death became inevitable for every living being, unless God intervened. Before the fall, the earth brought forth sustenance after its kind. Adam had not planted a tree or a vegetable, or a vine of any kind. After the fall, Adam was put out of the garden and told to eat the plants of field with toil until he returned to the dust from which he was formed. Medcially, science theorizes that the human being was not designed to die. Everything about the human body is designed to regenerate and renew it indefinitely. When you sleep, your body naturally goes to work to repair itself in whatever capacity healing is needed. It is only because of the curse from the original sin that people eventually die.

Devotional Reading: Genesis 3:16 AMP

20 The man called his wife’s name Eve [life spring], because she was the mother of all the living. 21 For Adam also and for his wife the Lord God made long coats (tunics) of skins and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of Us [the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit], to know [how to distinguish between] good and evil and blessing and calamity; and now, lest he put forth his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live [b]forever—23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So [God] drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the [c]cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life.

Why did God spare Adam and Eve? At the time of the fall, they were His only family on earth. He loved them. Rather than utterly destroy them, he chastened them that they should learn a lesson of obedience. The consequences of the original sin were: Oh to have been born before the fall of mankind! Unfortunately, Adam and Eve had no children before the sin in the Garden. Therefore, all humanity after the first man and woman was indebted to God by sin and needed atonement.

Lessons From Adam & Eve

  • You cannot believe everything you hear. Satan spoke eloquently and made a death summons sound like a small infraction. He said, you will not surely die. He purported that since one would drop dead immediately, that meant that one would not die. But How did Satan know that the forbidden fruit would not kill Eve instantly? The Word says that Satan was, “subtle and crafty” [1]. He was the first con artist.
  • When in doubt, get a second opinion. Ask God for clarity on points where you are not sure if there is a contradiction with His word and or His will. You can also do topical research on the Bible, which is online in hundreds of languages, and the most widely published book in the world.
  • You should use the tools available to you, to know the will of God. Even did not have a Bible. However, there is no mention in Genesis before the fall that Eve could not have gone to God herself and questioned the words of the serpent. The husband was not made head of the wife to be above her, until after Eve gave Adam the forbidden fruit and God pronounced judgment. You can pray to God, and read the Bible for yourself and study and know the Word of God such that if Satan comes whispering in your ear about what you should do against the commandment of God, you can be able to recognize the contradiction of Satan and choose to resist him.
  • You should council before making major decisions. Eve should have spoken to Adam about the fruit situation. Instead, she took matters into her own hands without discussing it with Adam, first. She gave him the fruit to eat of it, rather than than refraining from eating herself and going to Adam or to God to seek wisdom. Consequently, she tempted Adam to also behave independently of God and not to seek council of him.
  • You have great power and great responsibility. If you are married, you are to be a helper to your husband. Is often read that Eve was to be a help-meet for Adam – as in helping him to meet his obligations. While this is true to some degree, the scripture actually was that Eve is to be a helper, meet – or qualified and able to assist Adam. If you fail in helping your Adam, you risk causing him to fail. You can either be his millstone or his wings. Notice that the Word does not say that the eyes of Eve were opened (to know good and evil) when she ate of the fruit; but that the eyes of both Adam and Eve were opened when she gave the fruit to Adam and he did eat [2]. If you are single, you are be so devoted to God that a man would have to get close to God in order to reach you. You should be so far out of His league unless He has a relationship with your Holy Father, from whom the man must ask for you. You are endowed with the creative, tender, emotions of God. You have the instinct to know wisdom and understanding. You must apply yourself to good teaching and worthwhile doctrine not the commandments of men designed to exalt mankind, but the pure, unadulterated Gospel.
  • Never give up hope. Originally, Adam named His wife, “Woman.”. God called them both, “Adam” [3] because they were made for each other, as husband and wife, to be one flesh. Adam did not call his wife’s name “Eve” until after God had pronounced judgement for the fall in the garden. He could have named her an accursed thing because her temptation of Adam caused God to curse the ground, meaning that the entire world would be cursed from thereafter without an atoning sacrifice because of its connection to the ground. (Incidentally, this is the reason that money is cursed without the tithe. Money is paper, which comes from trees, which grow up from the cursed ground. Tithing redeems the tenth, which is all God requires to redeem the hundred [percent]). Eve had hope of being a mother to many nations because Her husband chose to associate her with life giving, rather than death – which came into the world partly by her actions. Adam forgave his wife Eve.
  • God is merciful. God did not destroy Adam and Eve. He was even merciful to the serpent, though each of them would now have problems in life – problems that were never intended to exist. Finally, God drove them out of the Garden. But before doing so, He made long coats for each of them (now we see where Adam and Eve got their designer genes!).
  • Know your privilege. It is a scientific fact that women are disposed to wisdom than men. You have a God connection that is in tune with the innate cycles God designed in you. When you tap into your spirituality untainted by carnality, you can commune directly with God. It is interesting to note that in Genesis 4:26, over one hundred years after the fall in the Garden, the Bible says that “then, men began to talk with God.” However, Eve had been claiming God’s hand in her childbirths hundreds of years earlier [4].This divine connection with God from conception is the reason why Satan tries to create a misogynistic society. He does not want woman crying out to God in praise, because you get right to the heart of God.
