Mistaken Identity
Recently I visited my doctor’s office to attend a post hospitalization group – something to aid in transitioning from inpatient to outpatient status. When I was called up by a receptionist, she assumed that I was looking for the substance abuse group and directed me to go down [ultimately the wrong] hall to the group session. After chatting with the group leader, she realized that I was in the wrong room. She asked someone to lead me down a different hall toward the right group. Problem solved.
Wrong.
Upon leaving the post hospital group, I had to return to the receptionist desk to book an appointment. When my mother and I were standing next to each other, a nurse asked me a question that let me know she assumed my mother was the patient.
People may take one look at you and err in assigning you to this or that group; but thankfully, God is not confused. He knows exactly who you are. He even knows how many hairs are upon your head.
God says before He formed you in the womb He knew you. Before you walked this earth, He chose you and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain. The next time someone mis-identifies you, thank God that He is a personal reference – He knows you, even your thoughts afar off. He sees you. He cares for you as He cares for the church. He calls you friend if you keep His commandments. He will never assume you are someone or something you are not.
