Memory Verse

Concerning Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Is there no longer any wisdom in Teman? Has good counsel vanished from the intelligent and prudent? Has their wisdom decayed? Jeremiah 49:7 AMP

“My people have become lost sheep; Their shepherds have led them astray. They have made them turn aside [to the seductive places of idolatry] on the mountains. They have gone along [from one sin to another] from mountain to hill; They have forgotten their [own] resting place. Jeremiah 50:6 AMP

Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory. Proverbs 11:14 AMP

Key People

Here is a list of key people – the who’s who of overcomers, found in today’s reading (in order of appearance) with bios from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Jeremiah. Also called the “weeping prophet”. One of the major prophets of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. According to Jewish tradition, Jeremiah authored the Book of Jeremiah, the Books of Kings and the Book of Lamentations, with the assistance and under the editorship of Baruch ben Neriah, his scribe and disciple.

Reflection

Have you ever felt like people just don’t understand what you are going through? Does it seem like the ones who used to be so wise, just don’t get it? Believe it or not, there is a method to wisdom. You don’t just wake up one morning with a revelation of all things for every subject. Wisdom builds upon itself in the same way that mathematics does. If you cannot grasp addition, you will have a difficult time learning to multiply and divide.

There were times in the history of God’s people that their actions did not match their level of experience with the one true God. You would think that after years of walking with Him, they would have learned their lesson and would not repeat the same mistakes. But in today’s reading God basically asks, “Have you forgotten who I am?” Their wisdom seems to have been blocked by folly. They are not serving God and seem to have to no memory for everything He has done for them.

When you gain a level of knowledge of God, don’t turn back. This is more than a casual friendship. It is a coveted relationship. Do you not know that there are people on this earth who do not have a relationship with God; who wonder what their purpose is in life; who wish they had a confidant that would comfort them in times of desperation. If we know God, we should daily progress in our level of spiritual maturity. But actions that do not align with what we know about God, will damage our relationship with Him.

So, what I saying is that wisdom is like a muscle that will atrophy if it is not exercised. We have to make right choices consistently to remain in right standing with God – which is the definition of righteousness; and good counsel is a way to support our evolving level of wisdom.

Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory. Proverbs 11:14 AMP
