Ezekiel. Acknowledged as a Hebrew prophet. In Judaism and Christianity, he is also viewed as the 6th-century BCE author of the Book of Ezekiel, which reveals prophecies regarding the destruction of Jerusalem, the restoration to the land of Israel, and what some call the Millennial Temple (or Third Temple) visions.

Reflection

Have you heard of being guilty by association? God sets forth in today’s reading that the father is not to be punished for wickedness done by the son; and the son is not to be held responsible for evils of his father. God is a just God. He goes on further to say that if a man be caught in sin and turn from his wicked ways unto righteousness, he shall not die but live; and vice versa, if a righteous man turns away from God and dies and his sin, he shall not be spared for his lack of repentance.

The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, ²“What do you mean by using this proverb concerning the land of Israel, ‘The fathers eat sour grapes [they sin], But the children’s teeth are set on edge’? ³As I live,” says the Lord God, “you are certainly not going to use this proverb [as an excuse] in Israel anymore. ⁴Behold (pay close attention), all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die.

If any man be in Christ he is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life] AMP.

God says it is time out for pointing fingers at out others’ failures and refusing to own our mistakes. If my father was an alcoholic and I become a drunkard, I still can not blame my addiction on my dad. In the same situation, a person could grow up to detest excessive drinking because he or she saw how it destroyed their father and family.

If we get to the edge of our faith, we must reach out of desperation to a solid foundation that we once stood upon. We should seek God for a renewed spirit. If we can simply ask, “Do It Again, Lord” – take us back to the place where we first received you (when our love for you was fresh and new every morning). If we can just recall how we hungered and thirst for righteousness, perhaps we can see that our God is still the same as He always was when we loved Him most. It is us who have changed. We can be restored with a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
