Reflection

The prophet Hosea was used as a metaphor for the emotion of God toward the Children of Israel after they had departed from following after God, committing great “whoredoms.”

Hosea is told to take a wife who is a an harlot. This woman, Gomer, bore him a son, a daughter, then another son.

The names of each child were given by God to Hosea. The first son was named Jezreel, for God said, “I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.” The daughter was named Loruhamah, meaning God would no more have mercy on the house of Israel. The second son was named Loammi, meaning “ye are not my people.” God was disowning His people because they had disowned Him.

Lesson From Gomer

“You can’t believe everything you hear.”
