MEMORY VERSES

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7

Reflection

In today’s reading in 30 Days of Unlimited Grace: Daily Prayer Devotional by Unlimited Grace Ministries, Bryan Chapell writes,

God gave his Son many titles: “Mighty God,” “Wonderful Counselor,” and “Prince of Peace.” These names for Jesus remind us that God provides for us something that we cannot provide for ourselves. He is the God who provides the might that we need. He gives us the wise counsel we desire. And God sends the Prince of Peace to comfort our fearful hearts, relieve our burdened souls, and transform our troubled world. This is the Gospel. And this is the grace of God. They are his provision— not just for those who think they have their lives all straightened out, but also for those who are well aware of their desperate need!

In the way that a person loves the sound of his or her own name, God’s ears perk at the sound of “Jehovah.” That does not meant that He is not listening otherwise. You can get His attention when you spend time getting to know Him better, and call Him Father, or Abba, or the name that really means the endeared one to you. See, He wants to have a personal relationship with you that transcends titles. He wants to be closer than a brother.

We are to “bless His name” as in thanking Him for being Jehovah Jireh, our provider whose grace is sufficient for us. Beyond that, God desires us to worship Him in Spirit and in truth – speaking to Him in the most genuine way that we know how. And God loves all of His children – the ones who are obedient, and the prodigals too. Only He would that we would all turn away from sin and become more like Him. To those who accept the grace to be peace makers, they shall be called the children of God (Matthew 5:9).

One way to increase peace in your life, is to give peace to others. You will reap what you sow. Give peace of mind through compliments, service, and relief (as in relief from a debt – when you forgive your debtor of what is owed to you, you free them and yourself).

Colossians 3 KJV

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;

23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
