Reflection
In today’s reading in 30 Days of Unlimited Grace: Daily Prayer Devotional by Unlimited Grace Ministries, Bryan Chapell writes,
As followers of Christ, we must continually fight against sin, but that doesn’t mean we’ll attain perfection on this side of heaven. In fact, we can’t do a perfect job, because there’s only been one person alive who could, and that was Jesus Christ, our Savior. But when we understand how incredible God’s love for us really is, we can’t help but try to live our lives for him. And we’re empowered to do so by the Holy Spirit, who fills us, counsels us, and sanctifies us to be
more like Jesus. Our own efforts could never make us perfect, but that’s why we “look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.” By his gracious sacrifice, we’re able to resist sin and live for his glory!
No matter you have been through, you are not what you’ve been through. Your circumstances do not define you in the eyes of God. He looks on the heart of us all and has special insight to your motives and influences. The message for today is that you keep pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of righteousness in Christ Jesus, after which you will obtain heaven if you do not faint. God is faithful and just to forgive you as soon as you open your heart to Him and repent.
Sometimes pressing toward that mark can make one weary – this will happen if you are not able to overcome the obstacles of this life. To overcome them requires faith and something that you may not have been told before: overcoming requires seed. If you reach a plateau in your life, a border to the fulfillment of your faith, you can overcome by sowing. Example? If there is a stronghold of poverty in your lineage, sow giving. Give even if you have little. God sees the sower as the ultimate expression of faith. To sow requires belief that a harvest will come, long before it ever does. A good explanation of the sowing principle is “Faith Like A Farmer // Sow It Before You See It // Crazyer Faith // Michael Todd.”
Philippians 3:3-15 KJV
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
