Lord, I Am Available to You

The TENTH Devotional Journal, Day 1

Greetings!

Good Morning Father! Good Morning Jesus! Good Morning Holy Spirit! Good morning friends! I am currently writing a devotional called, “The Tenth” (the name may change – it’s a work in progress.” This book explores the tithe with the not-most-common perspective of moving beyond the topic of money. What is a tenth of a life? Can you give GOD that?

Prayer Point

Abba! Thank you for your grace and mercy, and love! I know that I have not always had open ears and eyes and hands to receive your WORD, but I pray right now that you ARE and will be the LORD of my life. I surrender my all to you. I repent of everything not like you. Save me. Work through me. Speak to me. Show me you. Lead my steps and order my thoughts to focus on you. Teach me how to prioritize the time that you give me, that I can spend it with you now and in the life to come. In JESUS’ name, AMEN.

Scripture Basis & Memory Verse

A verse or verses that summarize the learning goal(s) of the morning, mid-day, or evening devotionals. In other words, this is what you should take with you from the daily theme, to remind you of the day’s lessons.

Genesis 28:22

And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Running Praise

Spotlight

Consider this about the mind that GOD gave you:

How fast do we think? By some estimates, we can experience sensory stimuli that’s presented for as little as 50 milliseconds (about one-twentieth of a second). It is thought that our brains can, in fact, respond to information that’s much briefer than this, lasting less than a quarter of a millisecond. What are you thinking with all that time?

One of the most influential songs I learned as a youth was, “LORD, I’m Available To You.” When I was a teenager, I was taken under the wings of a missionary soul, the honorable, late, Mother (Dr.) Martha C. Walker, the then State Supervisor of Women for the Kansas Southwest District of the Churches of God In Christ (shout out to KSW!). Something she was known for saying is: “I’d rather see a sermon lived [than preached] any day.” I later learned the words attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi who said to have phrased the same concept in this way, “Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary use words.” (Some disagree that it was actually St. Francis who said this first, but he did live by those words. He was an avid proclaimer of the Gospel. He even “preached” to the animals.)

What I want to share with you today is this: GOD calls for the life you live to be a message, as much as and more than the words you say. He does not say that the world will know you are HIS disciples by the blogs you write (or I write). The WORD says that they will know us by the love that we show (John 13:35). There is this issue though: the ability to show love is like a cistern with oil. When we give love, it takes something out of us. That cistern needs to be re-filled in order for us to keep giving it out afresh. I believe that you are loving. But are you running on fumes?
