Today’s Bible Insight: Light The World

The following is an excerpt from the book, Travel Light (in progress at

Travel Light

Light The World

Sometimes it gets dark in the [neighbor]hood. We need a light to guide us. The world is darkened because of sin and disobedience. Believers in Christ are the light of the world. God is taking some of you from obscurity to high places where your light cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14).

I used to have a “Just Do It” vacation mentality. What’s that? You ask. I just wanted to go to the airport, get on my flight, and shop when I reached my destination. Why would I want to travel without luggage? (Divas, holla at your girl.) You know you always end up coming back with more stuff than you had when you left home. Then, there would be this dilemma of what you were going to leave behind because your big suitcase was already so full, not even a single sock more was going to fit in there. And there was no use unzipping the carry-on again, or the garment bag, or the small suitcase with just shoes in it (oh yes, that one too) or even a purse: everything was already full to the brim.

Has it ever happened that you left something behind that you actually needed because you were making room for something else that turned out to be unnecessary? I did that plenty of times until I decided that I did not want to carry dead weight. Life can be like a suitcase full of dead weight. Did you know that you can travel light? JESUS said,

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

JESUS bore the weight of the entire world to the cross at Calvary. Because He sacrificed Himself and was raised to eternal life by God our Father, He bought with His own blood victory over hell and death and the grave. Now, you and I do not have to live burdened down, beneath our privilege, at the whim of the enemy’s weights of temptation. We can have unspeakable joy, the peace that passeth understanding, faith beyond measure, and every fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. I Peter 5:6-7

When JESUS left the cross, He sent us the Holy Spirit as a Comforter. He is our teacher, friend, and fountain of living water. The Holy Spirit is waiting for a broken and contrite heart to heal – completely. If you have said, “I will forgive, but I will never forget”, reconsider. The Holy Spirit is able to not only mend your brokenness but also to change your mind. There is nothing more powerful than a changed mind (- Bishop T.D. Jakes). When you begin to see yourself healed and whole, you are almost there. The first step is to forgive in order to be released from the burden and weight (baggage) of unforgiveness and a grudge. These bricks will keep your heart from feeling light and your mind from fully rejoicing in your salvation. Don’t let the enemy control your itinerary in this life. If you do, he will be the landlord of your eternity. Let go of the baggage, and travel light.

You were not designed to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Think of a light bulb. How sturdy is it? If you drop a hard-back book from six feet high on top of a light bulb, it will shatter. However, if you shine a fully powered light bulb into a dark room, there will be a line of sight for several feet in front of you. When you plug into the Holy Spirit, you are no longer a fragile light bulb. You are a lit city, set on a hill. Your light can shine in the darkness and fill every bit of space. You were designed to shine your light. You were made to light the world. The world does not understand you because you are not of the world. The enemy does not celebrate you, because you expose his schemes and disrupt his agendas.

When you make a decision to do what you were born to do, you will find that your light was specifically designed for the dark places where letting your light shine will allow others to find the door to salvation. This is God’s ultimate goal for partnering with you as a light conduit. He wants to save the world. I will let you in on a secret: YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO START LIVING ON PURPOSE.

You don’t need another degree (till you have more degrees than a thermometer). The knowledge of every generation and that before and after time itself belongs to God. If you have never had a download from the Holy Spirit, stay tuned. The more you search for His wisdom, He will begin to fill you(James 1:5). When you open your mouth, He will give you at that moment, what you should say (Psalm 81:10). It can happen that fast. What you do is pour as much of the WORD into your spirit as possible. When needed, the Holy Spirit will bring all things to your remembrance (John 14:26).

You don’t need a title – whether in the church or in the corporate arena. Some people will not listen to you unless you have a title. But those who will be led by your light will follow you no matter what you are called. JESUS was the son of GOD and some people could not listen to Him. If they did not hear him, they will not hear you either. Keep shining.

You don’t need a certain amount of wealth or a big house, or any material thing. GOD is not looking for a King in a golden high chair. He already knows a king – himself. GOD is not looking for another virgin to give birth. JESUS is the only Messiah. GOD is not looking for another Solomon to give him something. He owns all wealth. What is GOD looking for? He is looking for someone to worship Him, to pursue Him with every faculty of mind and body. He is looking for people to shine the Holy Spirit and light the world.

Keep your lamp trimmed and burning (Matthew 25:1-13). Payday is coming after a while.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9

Thank you JESUS! Hallelujah!
