Honey Lemon Chicken
My Mom likes lemon-pepper rotisserie chicken. However, this, like most recipes that call for a meat ingredient, typically includes a lot of salt. Diabetes and high blood pressure have been problems in my family lineage. After making the chicken in this recipe, I shared the meal with my Mom. She said it was good, but it needed more salt. I expected the salt comment; yet, it was a victory in that she at least tolerated the low-sodium dish enough to eat it as it was. On the other hand, one of my brothers is excited about these recipes as he is a health-conscious, college student.

MESSAGE IN THE MIX
Principles: 1) A soft answer turns away wrath, dissipating anger. Those who make peace will be known as the children of God. 2) A good chef knows how to turn up or abase different flavors to make an ultimately palette-pleasing taste. A bit of honey cuts the cheek-sinking, sour of pure lemons.
Devotional Reading: Matthew 5:1-16
Memory Verse: Proverbs 15:1 – “A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.”

DEVOTIONAL READING
Matthew 5:1-16
1 And seeing the multitudes, he [Jesus] went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Application
God placed in each one of us, everything we need to succeed in our unique situations. We do not all have the same gifts and talents, but all of these come from the same God. When we trust Him as our source, we can tap into the power that issues from His Holy Spirit. Just as God made each of us with a certain combination of elements from hair and eye color, to our unique set of fingerprints, we each have a measure faith to apply toward every thought and deed. When we use our several gifts to make peace, the Word says that we shall be called the children of God. Jesus said that the children of God would be recognized by the fruit that they bear. Our witness, lifestyle, words and actions bear fruit, or a testament of the Holy Spirit working within and through us. We should value and guard our witness, that our fruit should remain fresh and not be spoiled with the wicked sap of the world. We are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We have a responsibility, and yes the privilege, of being called by God’s name. May we follow peace and temperance (anger management, self control) with all people.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-25
