Sweet Whole Oats
Growing up, I ate oatmeal, rice, raisin bran, etc., with a ton (not really) of butter and sugar mixed in. It seemed I could not get food sweet enough to enjoy. This recipe taught me to naturally sweeten food. Now, I eat trail mix with almost every meal, providing protein – almonds, peanuts and walnuts, and natural sweetness – cranberries and raisins. A variation on this recipe is to replace the oats with cream of wheat (shown at above right) or grits.

DEVOTIONAL READING
Acts 9:32-35
32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. 33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. 34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. 35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.
Application
God desires his servants to have wholeness including soundness of mind, health in body and spirit. When we eat whole foods, we bring to our bodies, power to withstand illness. In today’s devotional reading, a man named Aeneas who had cerebral palsey, had been bed-ridden for eight long years. The Apostle Peter spoke these words, “…Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed.” Immediately, the man was healed and rose up from the bed, taking it away.
In Aeneas’ day, there were not doctors and hospitals in the manner that we can experience them today. Many people died of curable and or manageable illnesses. Today, we have surgeons and intensive care units. Aeneas needed a miracle healing. God blessed Aeneas by the word and faith of Peter. Today, we can go to God in prayer, prayer for ourselves and for guidance of our natural physician. Yet, having doctors and hospitals does not mean that we should not take precautionary measures to preserve good health.
How you treat your body, including what you eat, effects your energy levels and the strength of your immune system. When you eat well, you feel better and equip your body to fight illness. A good diet of whole foods also helps to heal you internally. It can improve your mood and stabilize your inner workings of the heart and other vital organs.
Whole grain oats are a heart-healthy way to start a great day. May we be more conscious of what we are putting into our bodies, that God may reward us with health and wellness.
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper
and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
III John 1:2
