The TENTH Devotional Journal

Consider This

How fast do we think? By some estimates, we can experience sensory stimuli that are presented for as little as 50 milliseconds (about one-twentieth of a second). It is thought that our brains can, in fact, respond to information that’s much briefer than this, lasting less than a quarter of a millisecond. What are you thinking about all that time?

The TENTH: Day 1 - The Time Is Now

LORD, I Am Available To You

The TENTH Devotional Journal, Day 1

Day 1 Introduction

1.0

When you complete a job application, one reasonable question the employer asks is, “When are you available to start or what would be your desired shift or schedule?” Why is this a reasonable question? They are not trying to pry into your private life to find out how you will be spending your time off the clock.

Asking when you are available is a reasonable question because you are offering to duplicate the time of the employer. So, the employer wants to know at what time your time will be surrendered to their agenda. This is the concept of availability to God.

Christianity is an offer to duplicate the time of the Savior. He has an agenda to reach out to a fallen world with the message of everlasting love. He wants to know when you will surrender your time to His agenda. The thing is, your time already belongs to God (Ezekiel 18:4). But He does not force you to surrender your will.

How busy are you? Do you find yourself saying, “I don’t have time for another thing?” Have you tried charting your day? This is more than a simple agenda. I am talking about a detailed time chart that shows exactly what you are doing every minute of the day. If not, stay tuned for the TENTH Workbook activity today.

From a recovering busy-a-holic (me) to every reader who thinks he or she is too busy to give God a tenth, here’s some food for thought: no matter how busy you are, you are still only using less than half of your brain capacity. The fact is, every person in their right mind has more than enough capacity to think something else. The question is: what mind are you in?
