The TENTH Devotional Journal, Day 3

Greetings!

Good Morning Father! Good Morning Jesus! Good Morning Holy Spirit! Good morning friends! I am currently writing a devotional called, “The Tenth.” Yesterday you discovered the role of a watchman and the importance of the fourth watch.

Today we will learn how to wait with purpose. We will not let precious time waste away, although we are standing still in the faith. Let’s learn how to keep faith when God says, “Wait.”

Spotlight: Keeping The Faith When God Says, “Wait.”

Have you ever sought an answer from God and heard total silence? How did you feel? How long did you wait before you had an answer? Are you still waiting? The longer you wait to hear from God, the more time the enemy spends plotting against your belief. That is why you cannot afford to waste time in the wait zone. This zone is prepared for you to make a pass, not a fumble. While you are waiting, it is an opportunity to see how you can be an answer to prayer for someone else.

Waiting for anything from God may sound like “lag” time, but waiting on God is a state of action. Actually, there is an art to waiting. If you learn how to wait well, despite the microwave in a minute mentality of the present world, you actually spend less time waiting. Being in a season of waiting does not mean that you are doing nothing while your life fades away.

In a season of waiting, there is something for you to do. If a tomato farmer casts seeds without any work while he or she waits for the harvest, the seeds will not produce fruit in due season. At the very least, there must be work of watering the seeds. However, it is important to note that not every waiting season lasts the same amount of time. Perhaps you have been waiting for a specific answer to prayer. Here are some things to evaluate:

Have you asked God for what you are waiting for? Sometimes people feel entitled to certain things, or ask other people but do not ask God for what they are waiting for. Everything belongs to God. A person can even tell you, “No” and God can turn their heart to a “Yes” if He desires to. The thing to remember is that we need to see God and not people as the source of all our needs and desires.
Have you met the conditions of what you are waiting for? Sometimes, answers require long division. That is, if you want to get to the answer, you have to go through some preliminary steps. When you meet the conditions, the door will be opened.
Have you prayed for your others? Job suffered many things not because He was out of the will of God, but because Satan wanted to make an example of him. However, when Job earnestly prayed for his friends, God gave him the deliverance he was seeking.
Have you submitted to the mission? God does everything decently and in order. Sometimes people seek quick fixes for things that God has principled as having a certain order of events. If you get in line with HIS program, you will be on the path to the right result. For example, God likes obedience even more than sacrifice. He also honors unit and service. Do you have a vision for a business or a ministry? Often your service will be required before you can realize your own vision. Is there a business you can serve with the gifts and talents God has seeded in you? This time of submission (submitting to the mission) will develop and perfect the seeds. If you are not willing to serve, it may lead to more waiting – until you change your mind.

The foregoing are just some of the reasons that your season of waiting could be shortened or prolonged depending on your responses to HIS prompting. There could be other reasons. Seek God for direction and recognize HIM as your source. Acknowledge HIM in everything.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:6

How to Trust God & Have Faith While You Wait

Most people get frustrated when they find themselves in a season of waiting. They do not consider that wait time is also what God uses to prepare you to receive in the next season. For example, a season of waiting could feel like a dark room where you do not see the light at the end of the tunnel. Remember that development happens in the darkroom. Proper waiting here can better develop you into the image of Christ. How do you know if you are in a place of development? A period of waiting on development has recurring themes. Today’s Apply Within activity will help you evaluate your current season of waiting.

While you are waiting, you still have to pray and worship while you wait. If you do not do these things, you forfeit the opportunity to grow in patience, which is often the purpose of being told to wait.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:2-8

Praying and worshiping in a season of waiting requires faith and a habit of praise.

Many people use the words trust and faith interchangeably. These two power-packed words are very close in meaning, but there is a key difference if you want a greater revelation.

Trust is defined as “a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”

Although both faith and trust are built by experience, trust in the life of an adult usually begins after a preliminary event, where someone earns the initial trust and then has it unless they do something to break the bond of trust.

Now, let’s look at faith. While trust is confidence, faith is the confidence that is confirmed with action. Faith is also most often connected to a higher entity. You may trust a person to do this or that, but you put your faith in God. With maturity, you learn to also put your trust in God, no matter who else may be involved. My personal faith mantra is: F.A.I.T.H is moving Forward As I Trust Him.

For those who want another opinion, Faith is defined as complete trust or confidence in someone or something. We do not usually speak of something being completed until has concluded. It is only when something that has started has finished successfully that we say it is completed. An unsuccessful conclusion is usually called an end, but not a completion, which denotes the fulfillment of something. Since faith is complete trust, it is a firm belief in a successful conclusion. This gives the confidence to act in terms of what is believed. The key to faith is acting upon it. That lines up with Scripture.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

James 2:14-26 KJV

¹⁴What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? ¹⁵If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? ¹⁷Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. ¹⁸Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. ¹⁹Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. ²⁰But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²²Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? ²³And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. ²⁵Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? ²⁶For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

When you are on the mountaintop, childlike faith feels easy. Sometimes as adults, our ability to have childlike faith is tainted by the losses and sufferings that inflict us. God is not asking you to pretend like you don’t have feelings when it seems like you are in a valley. HE wants you to be strong and courageous. Being strong does not mean that you don’t have pain. Faith is like a muscle that must be exercised. If you do not stretch it from time to time, it will get stiff and the range of motion – or the distance between now and the other side of the valley that it can sustain, will get shorter. Our God is GOD of the hills and of the valleys.

If you think in terms of an internet browser, the result of refreshing is a reload of data and images, displaying the most current version on the server. Even if you are seeing the images or reading text for the first time, they were there (or called by an external function) before you experienced them. Refreshing the page spiritually is resetting your thought process. The purpose is to reload the data from God’s own server.

Each of your experiences is stored in God’s master plan. While you may not recall every day from birth unto this moment, God knows every second you have ever lived – from the moment you were conceived (Jeremiah 1:5). What’s more, He holds the future.

There is no recommended daily allowance RDA on renewing your mind. It is not a daily vitamin. You can not max out on synchronizing your mind with Christ. When you feel mentally drained, restore vitality by centering your thought process on the mind of Christ (Phillippians 2:5).

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 KJV

Pray While You Wait

I know we talked about prayer watching yesterday. However, prayer is a key in every season, especially while you are waiting on God. Here is an excerpt from my book, Maximizing Ministry, on Maximizing Prayer.

If you have ever felt like you would pray more if you only knew what to say, take comfort in the fact that God is not looking for a Ph.D. thesis in your prayer. It’s not a 12-step program, or a 5-point sermon, or a Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. God is looking for your sincerity of heart and your mind open to hear from HIM and follow HIS leading. The shortest verse in Scripture is, “Jesus wept.” JESUS was communicating with God The Father, though HE did not even say a word. Prayer can also be like that.

The Holy Spirit can translate the groanings of your spirit that are not even expressible by common words. Turn your focus to God’s heart and just start listening if you can’t think of what to say. That is a first step that will not be ignored. You can also pray directly from the Bible. It is full of prayers on specific topics.

I know how it feels to be at a loss for words (though you might not notice it with this book). When I cannot say anything else, I can still thank God for who He is and pray, Holy Spirit, make intercession for me; and Jesus, plead my case.)

Worship While You Wait

Life trust and faith, praise and worship are also often used synonymously. However, while anyone can praise God or give him thanks or appreciation for something He has done. It takes a believer to worship HIM. Many things can be a form of worship in the natural sense, by devoting time and energy to something. Praise is a door to worship. It helps get your mind and heart into the posture of worship. Worshipping God though is devotion through HIS Holy Spirit.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24
