Less is more, right? I’ll give you one exception. Any time the blessing of God is “exceeding” abundant, then is not the time to begin scaling back your walk with Him. When you “exceed” obedience – which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1), you are on the road to being excess – blessed. You are walking toward divine favor.

In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. II Chronicles 1:7

Think about it: What did Solomon ask for? He did not seek worldly excess. He sought to serve God, lead and judge God’s people justly as King; and God magnified him exceedingly.

And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly. II Chronicles 1:1

If you seek worldly excess, you may get exactly what you are looking for. But if you seek first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33), you will have the more – because you will receive the kingdom and the overflow.

When you can lift your eyes to the hills from whence comes your help (Psalm 121:1) and say, “It is well,” (Deuteronomy 6:18) you are walking in the overflow. When you ask, seek and knock and receive mercy, you have stepped into the overflow – because God gives mercy to whom He will; and not all have it. When your bills are due and the check is no longer in the mail: it’s in the bank – you are living in the overflow. Some people wait to be snatched from flooding circumstance, before they recognize the blessing that is happening right now.

Somewhere, somebody does not believe in the true and living God, and their life is hanging in the balance – but you know that without God was not anything made that was made; and that includes you. You are walking in the overflow. Step into your purpose – which can only be found in Him.

Somebody is taking God’s peace for granted, but you know that rest is a gift of God; for He must first subdue your enemies, before you will be able to have peace in the world. When you don’t have to worry about famine, do you think that God is not providing the bread? When you don’t have to think about water – you just go to your local market and buy a free resource for a dollar a bottle – a higher wage than some people make in a day – you are walking in the overflow.

When Jesus healed the lepers and sent them away to show themselves cleansed as was the custom, only one returned to thank Him. Though each man had been cleansed at once, at the Word of God only, that one who was grateful, stepped into an excess blessing. He got God’s attention. Jesus said, “Where are the nine?” (Luke 17:17)

You might be the “one” who returns to say, “Thank you, Lord,” when the rest of the crowd has gone on with business as usual. But remember what happened to Solomon, when he gave a thousand offerings – God handed him a blank check.

God asked Solomon, what do you want me to do? Can you imagine the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, Son and saying Daughter, what do you want me to do? This is the God who brought the children of Israel out of bondage in a foreign land. They had been captives. They had been enslaved for four-hundred years. And in one day, God gave the order, and they walked out freely and with much substance – men, women and children, weighted down with increase until their backs were bowed over carrying all that God had commanded them to possess after centuries of working for a Pharaoh who had never once paid them justly for all their labors. This is the God who raised Lazarus from the dead. This is the God who made blind eyes to see.

If God said that today, “…if you hear His voice and harken unto Him, you can be excess blessed”, what would you do?
