In today’s reading, the priests and Levites were lotted to their various duties of the tabernacle in Solomon’s reign. Each ministry was in effect a family or group of families who served for a set time, together in assignment. Whatever the order of service, the work of the house of the Lord had no part undone, as each family member partook of his lot faithfully.
Today we have a more excellent ministry, in that we can testify of the Son, Christ, being not only brethren or ones who speak of that which we read only; but we are joint heirs with Him, able to testify by experience of the wonders of God.
Think about it: If we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us, what we do for Christ will be more effective. What would Zion look like, if each one numbered among the believers would use his or her faith to share the wealth of God’s magnificent truth?
Matthew Henry wrote:
…In the mystical body of Christ, every member has its use, for the good of the whole…
Ministry is not the job of Pastors only; nor is it reserved since Christ’s resurrection, for priests and Levites alone. But the Lord is looking for ones who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. And if these should hold their peace, the very rocks would cry out (Luke 19:40).
