King David prepared for the building of God’s temple, which would be carried out in his son Solomon’s reign, according to the Word of God (I Chronicles 22:6-10). And when he was ”old and full of days” (I Chronicles 23:1), David made Solomon King over Israel.
Before giving Solomon the Kingdom, David instructed him to build the house of the LORD. David had prepared the way that Solomon could build the temple joyfully, without thought for materials or labor. He instructed Solomon to keep the Lord’s statutes. This would be the only way to preserve prosperity.
Think About It: Proverbs 13: 22 tells us that A good [man] leaves an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner [is] laid up for the just. The inheritance is not limited to financial wealth. God charges his people to give to their children the knowledge they have of Him, that they may transfer the riches of God through Christ.
