Memory Verse: And the Lord said to Noah, Come with all your household into the ark, for I have seen you to be righteous (upright and in right standing) before Me in this generation. Genesis 7:1 AMP
Devotional Reading: Genesis 6:8, 13, 18; 7:1 AMP
6 But Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord.
13 God said to Noah, I intend to make an end of all flesh, for through men the land is filled with violence; and behold, I will [a]destroy them and the land.
18 But I will establish My covenant (promise, pledge) with you, and you shall come into the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
1 And the Lord said to Noah, Come with all your household into the ark, for I have seen you to be righteous (upright and in right standing) before Me in this generation.
When God determined to destroy the earth due to sin in every corner, Noah found favor with God as a man blameless in a wicked generation. He walked in continual communion with God and followed all of His instructions in building and filling the ARK. Noah’s wife and their sons’ daughters were all saved, invited into the ARK. Noah had kept their bloodline pure from the Nephilim – fallen angels lusting after the daughters of men. Noah was undefiled by these demonic angels and must have disciplined his family to reject them.
According to Jewish tradition, Noah’s wife’s name is Naamah. She was the sister of Tubal-Cain, son of Lamech and Zillah, son of Methusael, son of Mehujael, son of Irad, son of Enoch (not to be confused with the great-grandfather of Noah, the father of Methuselah, who’s death preceded the deluge for which the ARK was needed), son of Cain (who slew his brother Abel) and Awan (Cain’s cousin, a daughter of Adam).
According to the ages of record, Noah would have been about 480 years old when God gave Him the commission to build the ARK; and about 600 years old when the flood came. In other words, Noah’s wife stood by him during the approximate 120 year period that Noah had to remain devoted to God’s awesome project. Imagine the ridicule that Noah must have gone through, that his wife must have glossed over and cushioned Noah’s heart from. She is not described in Genesis, but I imagine that she encouraged Noah, since no extreme outburst was recorded as with the wife of Job, whose frustration was not overlooked in the scriptures. I imagine that Noah’s wife also offered wisdom to her daughters-in-law, since it is not likely that they would have been allowed to enter the ARK had been part of the sins of the Nephilims. Lessons From Noah & His Wife, Naamah
- A good man is hard to find. Only Noah’s family was spared in the great flood that destroyed the whole earth including all of its inhabitants not taken into the ARK that God told Adam to build. Noah was the only man at that time who was said to have walked with God continually. By having a good man for a husband, Naamah’s whole family was saved. It is a good thing that she stood by him through the near 120 years that they had to spend waiting for the promise of God to open the windows of heaven and pour down the rain.
