Memory Verse: “For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,” says The Lord God. “Therefore repent and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32 (AMP)).
Have you heard of being guilty by association? God sets forth in todays reading that the father is not to be punished for wickedness done by the son; and the son is not to be held responsible for evilness of his father. God is a just God. He goes on further to say that if a man be caught in sin and turn from his wicked ways unto righteousness, he shall not die but live.
The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, 2 “What do you mean by using this proverb concerning the land of Israel, ‘The fathers eat sour grapes [they sin], But the children’s teeth are set on edge’? 3 As I live,” says the Lord God, “you are certainly not going to use this proverb [as an excuse] in Israel anymore. 4 Behold (pay close attention), all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die.
If any man be in Christ he is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life] (AMP).
In tomorrow’s lesson, God even warns the children not to be like their parents who were worshipping and sacrificing to idols. Unfortunately, the children did not heed God’s warning and were instead following the ways of their fathers.
