The faithfulness of Joshua effected the Children of Israel in a positive way. His Godly leadership gave the Israelites something to emulate. His service also was not easily forgotten. The Bible says that the elders yet living of the children of Israel after Joshua’s passing – at the age of one-hundred ten, continued following God, holding God’s mighty works among them in remembrance (Joshua 24:31).
Who is following your example? In this information age where social media is a virtual king, the term following has come to invoke casual observation. When Jesus said, “Follow me…” (Matthew 9:9), He called for a life in submission to His will (Matthew 10:38).
What’s more, Jesus is not asking you to do something He has not done. He asks you to love Him. He loved you first (I John 4:19). Has God asked you to feed His sheep? Be sure, He fed you first. With each breath, He gives you life before you can give it back to Him. If someone is following you, where are you leading them?
